THE LAST AMERICAN NEWSPAPER at theREP

Saturday October 10, 2026 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm

Join us for an afternoon of fellowship and learning, at a fundraiser to support the work of the League of Women Voters of Albany County, which relies on local news to help us inform voters and get out the word on the importance of participating in government.

"The Last American Newspaper” is an urgent dispatch from journalists on the front line between facts and “fake news.” Based on true events, this gripping drama by Ken Tingley, the former editor of the Glens Falls Post-Star, takes you inside the newsroom to follow the rise and fall of a close-knit team of journalists as they struggle against a tide of economic and political forces that will redefine America’s access to information.

Come at 1:00 for a meet and greet in a lounge at Capital Repertory Theater. You’ll meet Paul Grondahl, Melissa Hale-Spencer, Marcello Iaia, and other local newspaper experts, and chat with league members and supporters about the local news scene.

By 2:00 take your seats in the theater for The Last American Newspaper, a passionate and compassionate memoir of local news journalism that has received wide acclaim.

At 4:00, following the play, we’ll walk or drive a few blocks to DP at Yono’s (25 Chapel Street) for two hours of hors d’oeuvres, drinks and discussion of the play. What will happen to the newspapers that still remain? How can we maintain a free press and what form will it take? What should our role be? Is a revival in the offing?
